Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI suddenly have become VERY attractive to young women on Facebook!
I used to be a rather funny-looking, undersized young man who wasn't much noticed by the opposite sex. Then I grew into an even funnier-looking OLD man, who, if noticed at ALL by the opposite sex, was viewed at best with a slight humorous tolerance.
But something has suddenly changed! In the last week, several apparently young, attractive women have sent me 'Friend Requests'. I don't what I have done to make myself attractive to these poor, lonely girls!
I go on Facebook nearly everyday, but I rarely ever post anything -- I just hit the 'Like' button on some of my friends' posts, once in a rare while making some comments. Where did all of these young women come from, who are SO eager to be friends with little, OLD me?
Does this have something to do with Zuckerberg wanting to instill more of a masculine culture into social media? Just asking for a friend -- a bevy of young, pretty female friends, actually.

It's been going on since Facebook existed.

(57,396 posts)I had about 2000 amazingly beautiful young ladies following me on Twitter, all of them wanting me to subscribe to this or that website 😅

(4,016 posts)you did a selfie with a double fistful of $100's, but the fembot thing is most likely. Although, I'm guessing it would be the same thing in the end...

(5,430 posts)whose FB friends list is mostly made up of honeybots. Either the old goobers (of which I am one - but not nearly as gullible) don't recognize an obvious scam when they see one, or they don't care. Probably the former.

(68,820 posts)Whatever theyre after, theyre going about it the wrong way.
The young ladies, however attractive they might be, are just that: young.
To me, a woman doesnt begin to be sexy and alluring until she hits forty or so.
If these scammers want anything from me, theyre going to need to get Helen Mirren to be their spokesbabe.

(48,729 posts)Facebook is passing on a lot of fraudulent ads, and I was very active with Paypal and other sources outside of Facebook to bring attention to the fact that Facebook continued to allow them to pass through, even after I alerted them every time.
Of course, I block everything objectionable.
I am probably flagged as someone that will seek remedies outside of Facebook, and I am almost never bothered with nonsense spam.

(31,335 posts)When I look at their friends...hmmm.....They certainly aren't white and have very interesting names.....
If you accept the friend request, they will likely start to message you and ask for money.
They probably connected you from the "likes"..or they could be bots.
I joined Blue Sky last week and have never posted. I suddenly got 22 people following me. Including a fake "Keanu Reeves". And then another "Keanu Reeves".

(2,463 posts)nothing new really. Long ago I shut off my facebook account, but before that, I would get these all of the time. I had a different approach though. I always accepted the chats and friend requests, the proceeded to play the dumbest and most gullible naive lonely man possible. Sometimes I could string them along for days while they started begging for money with all sorts of sob stories, while telling me how sexy and awesome I was. The longer you can string them along, the more they explode when they realize you know 1)they are most likely a man and 2) they are scammers.
It's a fun game if you have the time and a little bit of a twisted streak.
I absolutely loath scammers.

(2,463 posts)best approach for most people. But in my case, I didn't give a damn about my facebook presence at all. If my account got axed, I simply didn't care. I just use social media and general internet reading/responding to fill in 2-3 minutes for a mind break here and there during the day. Theres plenty of internet left if I get banned from facebook (or any other place for that matter).

(118,032 posts)I eventually traced the fault for those requests back to my brother's former boss who did not adjust his privacy settings made on Facebook. It filtered through my brother's laptop to affect my Facebook experience.
If you haven't looked recently, I suggest checking your privacy settings on Facebook to determine who you are sharing information to.
P.S.: The person on the opposite side of the computer screen most likely isn't the young, attractive woman on your display.

(8,619 posts)My suggestions are FILLED with young women in their 20's. I had assumed it's because my daughter is 22, and I am FB friends with a few of her friends (that I know from watching them grow up), but maybe Zuck just wants to encourage dirty old men to predate young women? Get a little of that "masculine energy" flowin'?
Gross.

(148,188 posts)I just block them instantly. What's fascinating is that this must work sometimes. That's almost unbelievable. I guess there are some old guys out there who haven't figured out that they're not interesting to young women. Somehow. Weird.
