It's almost as if the only way we can save the country is to let repubs destroy it.

Well not really destroy to the point of no return but to get exactly what they voted for to the extent they actually wake up and realize they were lied to.

But that is both unwise and dangerous! How could we possibly know how much is too much and irreversible for those people who will only learn when they hit rock bottom.

It’s not as if the legal experts don’t have multiple examples of countries that have fallen to dictatorships because they were too cautious and slow with rulings in an effort to be fair.

It’s not as if American journalists can’t talk to journalists from fascist countries (those still alive and no longer in their country) to learn what they did wrong.

It’s not as if CEO’s can’t see what happened to oligarchs who thought they could control or manipulate their leaders but ended up losing their business, or worse meeting the hard end of an open high story window.

I wish I knew the answer.

You say this as if we had a choice, we won't let them,we have no control over them if they have all three, house, senate and president. Add in the supreeme court and they have complete utter control,we can't stop them.

damage. I’m fully aware they have control of the Presidency and Congress.

‘Let’ would mean the minority doesn’t fight in Congress or the courts, a dangerous option as I said. I think we have to fight and whether it is the Dems in Congress, organizations like Democracy docket, or Meidas Touch, we have to do something.

The analogy of trying to help the family member who is an addict and then deciding you will only be able to help when they hit rock bottom may be analogous but it is too dangerous to contemplate the consequences of a country hitting rock bottom..

They will be in charge, and if they have a House majority everything is smooth sailing for them. Yes, we can protest, object, and write about how awful their policies are. The only check on how far Republicans may be willing to go will be the 2026 election, assuming there is one. If we organize huge protests that turn violent, because Trump instigators will ensure that happens, we play into Trump’s hands and he uses the Insurrection Act to add more power to his ability to stop normal democratic processes, like elections.

If Trump follows through on his promise to deport every undocumented person, we cannot stop that. Yes, we might be able to hide a few people or raise money to help them leave the country safely but we have no mechanism for stopping him from locking up millions of people and then dumping them in some country that doesn’t want them. He will not be able to deport them all within the first year, and hits to the economy as workers in the food supply chain disappear may stop the plan.

Where I see Republicans causing the most damage is with the programs that millions of people rely on, including cuts to Social Security for future retirees (to protect them for the 2026 election with current retirees), cuts or elimination of Medicaid and SNAP (Republican voters do not care what happens to poor people), and the elimination of Obamacare with nothing to replace it because they won’t feel the need to replace it.

The Department of Education will be eliminated, but some of its programs will probably be assumed by some other agency, such as the Title IX funding which is likely to be changed so that no LGBTQ+ child can participate in school sports. Children will have to provide schools with a birth certificate to verify gender. I’m assuming that Pell grants will still be funded because those help poor white kids and minorities. But with no federal monitoring of compliance with rules on discrimination in schools, states will be free to change discrimination policies at will.

There are many more ways Trump will destroy our democratic norms, but by 2028 there may be no mechanism in place to stop him. The courts certainly won’t.

since it takes "money away from men." Stereotyping in schools will be permitted once again.

They have to be shown how bad he is again. I cannot go through 2008-2010 again. It was devastating what republicans did to my business.

Are you ready yet to not let morons be in charge?
Are you ready yet to not let theives run the economy?
Are you ready yet to not let fascists run a republic?
Are you ready to understand yet that YOU CANT LEGISLATE CULTURE?

If so, dems are here and the adults will be in charge.
If not, go ahead, elect Vance and suffer more.
Your choice.
