Something I heard on "Morning Joe" early this morning has set me musing about something.

They did a segment about the legal betting on the election and how betting is a thing among the younger population who do things like watch a game on television and place bets via their cellphones as it is going on. They bet on plays and players and probably what time it might rain on the quarterback. Who knows. In any case, it got my attention since Democrats seemed to lose that demographic. Billions of dollars were wagered, far more on Trump than Harris. So, it struck me, if you have a $10,000 bet on Trump, wouldn't you go to the polls and vote for Trump? Could that have been a factor? This whole outcome is just not making sense to me in any way, shape or form.

1. You may be on to something. But it doesn't have to be such a large number.

$100 would be enough to "buy" your vote.

3. Exactly. At first I was only half listening to the piece because I had just woken up and I swore

I heard a college kid say he bet $10,000. But I could be wrong on that number because I was only half awake. It did get my attention, though, and got me thinking. $100 is a more reasonable bet.

But the failure to cover the betting markets as it happened was a failure of our news media.

They were doing all they could to pump up the hype and the outcome. They're like the 80's "Me Generation" wallowing in 'greed is good' awfulness. Hiding behind digital anonymity. More cynical and narcissistic, for sure.

5. I Did Hear Before Tuesday That There Would Be Betting Going On The Election.....
Fri Nov 8, 2024, 08:02 AM

I thought that of being odd. I didn't put that together like Vinca did though After reading Vinca's post however, it hit me - If it looked like a person knew the betting money was on Tr**p to win - couldn't a person think that they could make some easy money if they placed their bet on Tr**p and then went ahead and voted for him?

Do we know how much money was made in these betting situations because Tr**p won?

Do you think word got around in this young demographic to bet on Tr**p to win?

Did Elon put money on Tr**p to sweeten the pot?

Is that why many of us were caught by surprise that he won?

Hmmmm..... ?

6. Betting On Elections Should Be Outlawed....

How many betting parlors in Vegas and elsewhere included this election in their establishments?

How much money was won on a Tr**p win?

Did Tr**p place money on himself to win?

10. The Youth Is Into All These Fantasy Sports Betting.......

More and more betting internet sites are getting into that as well.

I'm thinking because of the proliferation of these internet betting sites - it's easier to bet on elections than ever before. It's as close to a person as their phone. Sure makes it easier.

Also - I read before the election that most youths - get their news on the phone instead of the cable news networks & newspapers.

Social media also makes it easier for word to get around.

Is anyone looking into the betting that went on on Tuesday and the surprise that Tr**p won? I think it is worth an investigation.

Newspapers are dying. MSNBC gets around 2.5 million viewers daily. Maybe a bump if big news. We definitely have to change our paradigm before 2028.

Joe was absolutely giddy the day after election. Now all they talk about how the Democratic Party is doomed. Screw them, I will never watch again.

If you're almost totally disaffected and don't think the government matters (which, apparently many young people feel) then a bet is as good a motivator as anything.
