15,000 ballots to go: Douglas County Election Commission to update results Friday
Christopher Burbach Nov 7, 2024 Updated 3 hrs ago
The Douglas County Election Commission plans to tally 7,500 to 8,000 ballots on Friday, about half of the remaining uncounted ballots in the county.
Election Commissioner Brian Kruse said he will update unofficial general election results late Friday afternoon.
About 15,000 Douglas County voters ballots had not been counted by Thursday. That includes 6,756 early ballots returned between noon Monday and the close of polls on Election Day, 5,560 provisional ballots and 2,600 resolution ballots, which are ballots that could not be read by scanning machines. Two election workers from opposite parties must examine each resolution ballot to determine the voters intent, then make a duplicate to be counted by a machine.
Kruse expects to count all of the remaining early ballots on Friday and the resolution ballots that have been examined and processed, which he expects to number about 1,000. The provisional ballots will be counted Nov. 18, after they have been examined and validated, and the county election commission will post its next set of results that day. The election commission will post its final unofficial results Nov. 18. It will certify the election Nov. 21.
