"the Democratic National Convention, there was a "parade" of special interest groups -- except one."

https://search.app?link=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rawstory.com%2Fharris-trump-election%2F&utm_campaign=aga&utm_source=agsadl1%2Csh%2Fx%2Fgs%2Fm2%2F4

Rogan's interview got 40 million views on YouTube and about 15 million downloads.
"That's 55 million people who saw Donald Trump for three hours," said Galloway, noting that's about the same number as viewers of the entire MLB World Series. "If he were to try to get that same audience on cable television, he'd have to go on this and every other prime-time cable news network for two weeks."

Galloway noted that at the Democratic National Convention, there was a "parade" of special interest groups — except one.

There were no young men," he said. "There was no acknowledgment of the group that has fallen further, faster than any group in American history over the last 20 years. And that's young men."

A key point of evidence, he said: More single women own homes than single men and women earn more in urban centers under age 30.

He then launched into some "grim statistics": young men are four times more likely to kill themselves, three times more likely to have an addiction and 12 times more likely to be behind bars. Additionally, just one in three young men are in a relationship.

Online progressives pushed far too much against the "white male". The 20 something kid is being chastised for being privileged and made to feel he is inferior. Think about it, when was the last time a young white man was spoken about in a positive light by online progressives. The loniness issue is a real problem and we ridicule them to our detriment.

3. With young men, we are on the receiving end of a overall misstep of western culture
Fri Nov 8, 2024, 06:45 AM

For many years, our society - and that of our peers in Europe - have gone out of the way to celebrate the achievements of women, LGBTQ groups, and ethnic minorities. Overall, it was right to do so, but a mistake was made. Young straight men, white ones in particular, are left out. They don't get their turn of recognition, and only get told instead that they have it easy and have all the advantages in our society. It's off-putting and repelling, and leaves them in search of an identity. Some of them are finding the alt right, which offers them the sense of belonging that they were looking for with it's macho masculinity routine.

This lost generation of young men isn't just happening here, it's playing out in other western countries as well.

We (our society, this is bigger than our party) need to re-evaluate our messaging to men, and find a better balance.

I see a lot of cursing of white men (and also women) blaming them for the election, but that might be misguided. While those groups did vote for Trump, they did so less than they did last time. It was gains with non-whites that put Trump back in power.

2016 to now, Trump lost ground with whites - especially white men. White men were the only racial + gender combo where he lost a meaningful amount of vote share.

White Men - 2016 +31 for Trump, 2024 +23 for Trump
White Women - 2016 +9 for Trump, 2024 +8 for Trump

Compare that to:

Black Men, 2016 +69 for Clinton, 2024 +56 for Harris
Black Women, 2016 +90 for Clinton, 2024 +84 for Harris
Latino Men, 2016 +31 for Clinton, +8 for Trump
Latino Women, 2016 +44 for Clinton, +22 for Harris

They could waltz into any job, anywhere without much in the way of qualifications. They could easily be set for life. And then when we started trying to level the playing field for women and others, they could not compete and it seemed like we had it in for white guys. We did not; other people just started to perform better (women, for instance, have to be twice a good to get even half as far due to structural misogyny). Girls took advantage of the opportunities suddenly available to them. They have their shit together, by and large.

I don't think we can go back to putting women back in the kitchen and reducing opportunities for others. We cannot go back.

Of course the GOP won't help them. That's obvious.

But people want kitchen table solutions. Affordability. Fuel prices. These things matter to people who are just trying to live their lives. Using buzzwords and talking about every group but men is a great way to alienate them. Sneering down from the ivory towers telling people struggling to make ends meet that the economy is fine is a sure fire way to propel people to vote against them.

The world expects more of everyone. Women and racial minorites know this, and they gave blood sweat and tears to build themselves a place in this inherently bigoted world. They had to work twice as hard, suffer and sacrifice twice as much, for half the recognition.

It's why they excel now, while white men wallow in self pity. The world expects more of everyone, but white men have historically given the least. For them, their place in the world used to be guaranteed by the fact of being white and male.

It doesn't get better, EVER, until you decide to do the necessary work.
It's HARD. It SUCKS. It ALWAYS takes longer than you think it should. But it's the PROCESS that teaches you what you need to know for it to be better.
Trump is selling them snake oil. Blaming them for not knowing that? I agree with you, that isn't useful. But telling them that there's a solution that involves anything other than them doing the work of NOT DRINKIN IT, and going out and finding their own water instead is fucking useless and I won't countenance wasting political capital on it.

That boys and young men have significantly fallen behind and this presents a problem - not just for us electorally, but for society in general. History has shown time and again that societies with sizeable restless and disaffected male populations usually do not have a good time. Got my head bit off pretty much every time I noted it.

Just nod and agree that practically every male under 30 is an incel and call it a day.

Also something that's been working out really well for us.

You hope people will learn, but over the past few days, I'm not getting a lot of signs that they do. Way too many are going full Principal Skinner on the situation. "Could I be out of touch? No. It's everyone who isn't me that is wrong."

I don't want to get too far into the topic (especially since I'm about to leave for the entire day), but I tried having a discussion about males getting assistance in education systems and how difficult it's become. Did not go well. But it's true. I'm an older Millennial, and there was very little interest in helping boys and young men. The thinking was, "You're advantaged by default. Others need the assistance." Which, it was the 90s and 00s at the time, and we were still working hard to correct historical wrongs. So I do get it. But I also watched many in my generation fall through the cracks with no one particularly caring.

Now I watch my nephews who are younger Gen Z. My nieces get endless affirmative offers of assistance tailored to their gender. I have yet to see similar for my nephews (who are non-white, fwiw). If they're struggling, no one asks why, no one cares why, there are no special programs, activities, or focused attention targeting them, and there's a resting assumption that the system is already designed to care about them (too much in some people's opinion).

And we see these dynamics in discussions about privilege. Non-stop. It's an exhausting repetitive conversation. "The system is designed to benefit males!" This is definitely no longer true of education anymore for Millennials on down. And when someone invariably replies, "All males aren't getting that privilege," it's a shrug or some ideological explanation that stopped being interesting past a freshman sociology class. And that's if you're lucky. Usually extremely bitter people with their own sexism problems show up by that time, and just try saying anything on the topic at that point. It's a more productive use of time to set yourself on fire.

It's a hard conversation to have. There are a lot of sensitivities surrounding it. There's a lot of anachronistic ideology that hasn't adjusted to the world as it exists today.

We don't worry about our nieces nearly as much as our nephews. Our nieces not only get support for us, but they can (and do) take advantage of systemic and affirmative guidance that pushes them towards success. And that is an awesome thing to have! Our nephews? They're a DIY project we're always side-eyeing. We've been practically raising three nephews (their father died some years ago). When my niece struggled, teachers were writing notes and making calls right away. When the boys struggled, we didn't hear jack shit. I only figured out one of my nephews was deep in the weeds when I started digging into his education on a granular level. His grades weren't reflecting his problems, because his teachers were not giving grades reflective of his actual learning. I sat him down one day and started quizzing him on various things someone his age should know. Basic algebra, history, English, etc.

And in that moment, I saw a lot of shame that he had been feeling. He felt stupid and hopeless, and he'd been hiding it for who knows how long. It woke us right the fuck up to what was going on - or rather what was not going on.

This is a problem, and it's one I see repeated all over the place. My friends and family with kids compare notes and have similar stories.

If people can look at this country and young men and think, "What we're doing is fine. In fact, we're probably too much for boys," I don't know what to say. But people do say that and have said that right here. And what can anyone say? We can only harvest what we grow.

Talking down to the majority of the electorate about how the economy is fine, and how they are privileged and their opinions don't matter is a sure fire way to drive them into the arms of the opposition. And Republicans have perfected that to a T. This may be harsh to say but there are only so many identity group members you can appeal to; Americans are not majority blue-haired vegan non binary feminists.

Fri Nov 8, 2024, 08:23 AM

That’s the base of our party. It’s not that we exclude white men, it’s that they exclude themselves when women and minorities are in charge.
Did we notice that the entire RNC was white?

On the problem of young men - 30 years ago, people were more aware of this problem and tried to do something about it. There were actual hearings held on the War Against Boys. Why were so many boys medicated? Did public schools insist on medicating them in order to control normal boyish behavior? Why are so many boys autistic? (RFK JR is/was not alone in suspecting vaccines). Where are the fathers who used to raise boys? Why are boys addicted to video games? Why are boys falling behind academically? And the big one - WTF ARE THEY MASS MURDERING US?
No one really got a handle on those issues.
It’s extremely difficult to engage young men in anything that is not a video game or a sporting contest. They have self-isolated and as a society, we’ve allowed them to do so.
Grown men need to start saving young men. I don’t know how. Women cannot help young men get a sense of masculine pride. Right now, the RW have stepped in. Left-leaning men need to find a way to reach this group.
I have no answers.
I’m actually glad that people in this group are focusing on young men.
