Collective Stockholm Syndrome
The reason as Democrats we lose so many times, like we did in this election is that the people of this country have misdirected their anger and frustration. It is corporate America they should be angry with not our government. Unfortunately most Americans identify with the places they work for and suffer a sort of Stockholm syndrome. What we do and where we work becomes part of our identity. For example if someone asks us to tell them about ourselves we say we are an accountant for Chase or a mechanic for Firestone or whoever. Its hard to hold corporate America accountable when you identify with them. When your pay never keeps pace with the cost of living, when your company passes on more of your healthcare costs. When you have less say in what happens at your workplace in fear of losing your job because you have no protections you get angry and frustrated. But instead of directing your anger at the entity that is at the root of problems you lash out at the easier target, government. Government is the target that the republicans over and over tell you are to blame for your day to day frustrations. And the only way to solve your problems is to make government smaller, get out of the way of business and the working man. If that happens everyone will make more money and can be happier. We as a country identify with our captors. Until we can direct our anger and our actions to the real source of problems, corporate America and the politicians they own we dont stand a chance of winning. Government run by democrats are the only ones with an iota of the power to help the working people of this country.
