They went soft on Trump’s criminality and incompetence, and his sheer volume of scandals meant that the past ones were forgotten as the next one erupted. He would not have won his 2016 minority victory had the US news media adequately conveyed that Trump was not the fun fictional character in the reality TV show The Apprentice; he was a serially bankrupt man repeatedly accused of sexual assault with a lot of criminal ties and a history of not paying his bills, being helped on by the Vladimir Putin regime, which had itself seriously corrupted the information environment of the election.

The last major “news”paper I subscribed to until its billionaire owner decided to subvert democracy for a “dictator on day 1” by murdering democracy in darkness was the Washington Post. I’m through subsidizing those who willingly sacrifice our lives on the altar of the mammon they worship over all else. I do think a major investment in building a media infrastructure that would honestly and reliably report on such matters in addition to the world as it is, rather than trying during the heat of a campaign to have candidates overcome the additional obstacle of breaking through the avalanche of reality defying bullshit people have been fed daily, is literally a matter of life and death for democracy.

I shall post whatever I think people here will be interested in so gift links will be abundant when necessary! 😎However, and this is what I find appealing about them and Pro Publica is that, as nonprofits, they fulfill their mission of education by making most of their articles free. Nevertheless I think it’s a more sensible use of money spent on media to support those who are reporting the truth minus the propagandistic sane-washing we’ve all been made to swallow by the now disgraced New York Times “All the news that’s fit for wrapping crap” and the “Washed Up” Post.
Simon Rosenberg a respected and astute Democratic strategist and great all around thinker on all things political and great guy has suggested we need to make structural investments in media and communications infrastructure to counter the now insane level of reality manipulation the current algorithmically driven garbage spewed by antisocial media which has led to this situation where reality itself is subjected to constant distortion to suit a fascist agenda. Elad in his post alluded to this as well. I think that needs to be a significant focus of our efforts as well as the mindset of strongly championing our best policies and not watering them down or running away from them to avoid alienating some cohort of the electorate that doesn’t exist-the mushy ill defined manchinesque-like voter they conjure up. People like our policies so damnit shout their benefits from the rooftops, defend them, and quit playing cautious self neutering prevent defense which only prevents you from winning. ✊🏼
