I have spent some time watching countless TikTok videos during the past couple of days to see how other people across the country and world have been reacting to the election results. It's been somewhat uplifting, somewhat sobering and somewhat hilarious. To give you an idea of what I have seen, here's a brief rundown of some of the types of videos, with many people posting similar topics and such.
- Women have been encouraging other women (but men are welcome to participate as well) to start wearing blue bracelets to let other women (and men) know that they are safe with them and have a friend and ally who sees the world like they do. Some are even asking where they can find small businesses owned by black women to purchase the bracelets from in order to support them.
- Other women have discussed joining the 4B movement that started in South Korea where the women there are swearing off men in all aspects of their lives with the "B" being the first letter of 4 words representing the actions the women are taking.
- By far the saddest videos I have seen are from teachers, many of whom have been crying, as they fear what will happen to the poor or immigrant or special needs or LGBT students they teach who will now face unconscionable hurdles if not complete defunding and maybe even removal from school systems in the years ahead.
- Many Latino video creators have been openly criticizing their fellow Latino citizens for voting for Trump as they know full well what is coming. While some of these have been humorous, most of them are filed with anger and fear and not an ounce of sympathy for the pending deportations of family members and friends of those Trump voters.
- Some gay men are saying they will now start outing their DL partners to their partners' wives and spouses to show them what it feels like to be disrespected. These were equally divided into angry videos and funny ones.
- Several videos from people of all ages, races and backgrounds have been created to explain to people the harmful effects of the policies that are coming. The viral story (not sure if it was true or fake) today of a SW Pennsylvania company eliminating Christmas bonuses so it can stock up on imported materials ahead of the tariffs much to the surprise of the Trump voting employees was the subject of a few of these videos. People simply explaining tariffs has been a popular subject as well with my personal favorite being from an economics professor in California who gave a detailed analysis of those aforementioned tariffs in a manner that even a child could understand.
- Men have been making videos expressing their support for female bodily autonomy to let women know they are not alone and they have male allies in the upcoming battles.
- Of course, there have been many, many videos of people ridiculing and mocking the Trump voters while taking a wrecking a ball to the lies, hypocrisies and stupidity that surround the entire Trump world and his voters.
It's good to see people trying to educate and entertain while also trying to help and support each other at the start of what will be a very, very ugly and dark four years ahead of us.

(37,681 posts)Thanks for classifying and describing those videos. I will probably read again and re-read, maybe even sign up for TikTok to see examples.
I got some perspective from your observations.

(8,542 posts)Because I have had it up to HERE the last few weeks with SO-CALLED fast-talking/saying-nothing progressive, lefty, tankie Youtubers who never miss an opportunity to bash and blame the Democrats. I know there are DUers here who consider themselves proud progressives or leftists--I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT YOU, I promise.
