General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have read several articles that say men overwhelmingly voted for TSF.
Sure. Generally speaking nothing scares men more than the thought of losing their power and privilege.
Men are not protecting women, they are protecting themselves.
Across religions, borders, economic, social, and cultural classes, patriarchy is shared.
Christian Nationalists want to impose Christian values throughout our public and private institutions, but do not follow the Gospels stories of Jesus. So, what are the Christian principles they want to indoctrinate our children with? Certainly not the Ten Commandments because they appear in some form as rather basic rules within most religions or no religion at all.
It is patriarchy.
Christian Nationalism is all about patriarchypower and privilege is baked in.
Men will tolerate their differences with each other to protect and replicate patriarchy.
There are exceptions, of course, but not enough to break the diamond-hard foundation it is built on.

(1,520 posts)they voted for Trump in an effort to keep those "uppity women" in their place.
The inadequate males dream woman:
Holds down a good paying job, turns her paycheck over to him, and still does all the cooking, cleaning, child care and is as "hot" as He11....
AND VOTES AS HE DIRECTS!

(1,862 posts)The pathetic part is, they are oblivious to the fact that it traps them in a tiny man box wherein they must sacrifice a big chunk of their humanity and individuality to fit within its constraints. The constant pressure to prove their manhood to other men must be exhausting. Its interesting that women arent under the same pressure to prove we are real women.
pandr32
(12,140 posts)I agree with you--men do sacrifice the potential to be a human being without the box mold.
The problem, though, is that women sacrifice more.
ariadne0614
(1,862 posts)Im just saying that too many men are still under the delusion that the box is a fine place to be. On the bright side, millions of men broke out of the box to vote for a black woman, and the number will keep growing.

(17,695 posts)as you put it... "man box". Trapping them in a set of limiting life parameters.
I wouldn't exactly say we women don't have the equivalent.
While greatly diminished in some families, and resulting in a more variable lives in some parts of the country, the culture etc;
think of the fact of women, child bearing, and choice.
You're not a "real woman" if you don't have, or even want kids. That's why the "childless catlady" is flung about! It's supposed to verbally, emotionally sting!
I absolutely respect good mothers (and fathers) All thanks to them! It's not what I wanted. Why should I be considered "less than"?
Think of those who think women shouldn't go to college, have X job, or even vote!

(12,140 posts)I am female and have a twin brother. Patriarchy was established immediately. My father, grandfather, and uncle all posed with the little blue bundle--the firstborn male in my generation.
I was actually born first, grew taller, and was way better in school. My teachers wanted me to skip a grade, but my parents said no. They worried it would be hard on my brother. I brought my report cards home to little fanfare. My mom said I needed to help my brother more.
He grew up not even noticing his privilege.
Patriarchy is an overarching system we all live within.

(2,610 posts)This has certainly been a nightmare of a time! My daughter in law just texted me after the election results and said that she had to say she is relieved to not be having a girl at this time! The baby will be three in four years and we would still have a rapist in chief in the WH. After we gave a little sigh about having to think of these things we both decided that between all of us we can get him on the right track!😁🤣💙💙🙏🏼 When my son was three he was big on asking his dad if he could do thus and such and my husband would always say it was fine with him but that my son would have to ask mommy first. This must have gone on more often than I realized because one day I was gently vetoing some cockamamie request and the kiddo threw himself on the floor asking, Why do the womens have all of the power??? 🤣😂🤣 Poor kid figured that out wayyy too early. I did feel a little bit sorry for him but hey ya gotta learn sometime. But now our world is different with all of the quiet parts being said out loud in this country and we will have to continue to speak out no matter how painful that is. Stay safe and love hard! 💗💗

(697 posts)the New Yorker that 46% of women voted for Trump this time.
due to women of color overwhelmingly rejecting Trump. Again, the majority of White women who are about 37% of voters voted for Trump along with white men who are about 37% of voters voting for Trump.
Women of color are too small alone. White men and women are the majority of voters and as they swing so does the election along with those 15M who sat out the election.

Forgive me, but how does that make sense?..How are women of any race responsible for how men vote?
The latest exit polls indicate that overall, white men voted for Trump by 60% compared to 53% of white women....A Majority of white college educated women did vote for Kamala against Trump, 57% to 41%, That's in comparison to the Majority of college educated white men who voted for Trump at 50%, and Kamala at only 47 %.

(2,901 posts)Trump was able to make slight inroads with Black voters nationally, who made up about 1 in 10 voters across the country.
Nationally, about 8 in 10 Black voters supported Harris. But, that was down from about 9 in 10 in the last presidential election who went for Biden.
Trump about doubled his share of young Black men which helped him among key Democratic voting group. About 3 in 10 Black men under the age of 45 went for Trump, roughly double the number he got in 2020.

(1,432 posts)Lets face it, some of the most conservative States have female Governors. Arkansas, South Dakota, Alabama, etc.
Turn the question around. If the Republican candidate had been Niki Haley, would you have voted for her? Of course not!
Would you have been a misogynist? Of course not!
I think the abortion question (Roe, Roe, Roe your Vote) didnt work as well as we hoped because it is being left up to the States and many women split their vote. In many places with referendums they were able to vote on both of their top priorities, abortion and economy without, unfortunately, having to vote for VP Harris.
I dont know what we should have done differently, but I also dont think misogyny was the main problem.

(278 posts)Last time he was elected, the day after a corporate restructuring eliminated my old job, I expected to be soothed by a Hillary win. I puked over the railing on our deck when it was called. His 4 years proved my reaction was justified, especially because of the sociopath, drunk, and handmaiden he appointed to Scotus.
Now I'm retired and I discovered that it wasn't employment anxiety that caused that, since I did it again. I live in Oregon and we stayed blue but I'm not fully recovered, and doubt I ever will, as my opinion of my fellow citizens has taken a hit, but I've got grand kids so back to fight:
Looking forward it's time for betting ideas:
Will he make it to inauguration?
How long before Vance pushes a 25th amendment?
Will "the healthiest president ever" actually survive 4 years?
When will he attempt to change the Constitution and allow him to
be president for life?
How long before he gives Ukraine to Putin?
Will he allow Netanyahu to annex Gaza after a genocide?
Will he nuke a hurricane next year? (might need odds)
Will he get Mexico to pay for the next 2000 miles of wall?
Will he start talking about a wall to Canada?
When will Alito and Thomas resign, to be replaced by younger more extreme jurists?
These are just a few of the horrific betting opportunities on the horizon.
I've imagined these and a bunch more.

Like someone already said, Hillary won the popular vote and Obama won two terms. A lot of things went wrong. Some of it was Kamalas fault and some of it wasnt. (1,006 posts)What they REALLY are are Christian Reconstructionists, and they are scary as all get-go. They are followers of the crackpot R.J. Rushdoony (1916-2000), who was somebody who couched his fascist, John Birch Society notions in religious garb and has been wildly successful and influential, much to the detriment of Christianity as a whole.
These people want to completely revamp our society and make Old Testament law apply to a modern, secular society. Real theologians consider the movement heresy, but that hasn't stopped these crackpots. They want the death penalty for all kinds of things: adulterers, LGBTQ and the rest, even children who are "incorrigible." By the time they would get done with all the executions, there literally wouldn't be anybody left. Oh, and they also want a return to slavery. House Speaker Mike Johnson is one of these CRs.
In these crackpots' minds, they think if they can force theocracy on a secular society and all societies all over the world, that somehow Jesus will return. It doesn't dawn on them that they are completely wrong.
However, it is really the fascism they want. Enslaving women is central to it. They are big on "homeschooling" not because of the kids but because it is a way to force women into the home.
