We lost PA, OH, WV, and MT. Only PA was a swing state.

(6,485 posts)And the 2026 midterm senate map is poor in terms of pickups. The only one we'll have a real shot at is NC. Roy Cooper has already said he'll be running, and he's popular there.

(6,485 posts)Ossoff is well liked, but Brian Kemp may run and he's really popular.
Having Trump as the incumbent may actually save Ossoff in this one.

(2,136 posts)Peters is up in 2026. Slotkin barely won now. Peters won in 2020 only by a little over 1.5pts. In 2014 it was 13pts. We'll have the wind at our backs due to the midterms usually going against whichever party holds the White House at least.

Interesting thought though. If Republicans piss too many off, Romney, Mirkowski, Collins (I think they all have at least 2 years left) could use another vote to keep thing a bit less horrendous and Vance from being tie breaking vote.
****thanks to all for pointing out Romney's out as of 2025. I knew he was not running again. Didn't check to see when his term ended.

(2,136 posts)And they have a special election at the next Federal election to serve out the remainder of the term. So Brown could run again for the seat in 2026.

(258 posts)Won't the next election happen in 28? I thought it was always there fulfill the term but I could be wrong
DetroitLegalBeagle
(2,136 posts)The Governor appoints a replacement until the next election, which is 2026. The winner of that election then serves out the remainder of the term. Then, if they want, they can run for the next full 6 year term.
Ontheboundry
