(20,804 posts)People also ask
Can a U.S. citizen collect Social Security while living abroad?
If you earned Social Security benefits, you can visit or live in most foreign countries and still receive payments. Look up the country on the SSA Payments Abroad Screening Tool to be sure you can receive your payments.

(14,443 posts)... decide to cut that off. No one can stop him. Of course he could try cutting off domestic payments, but that would have huge repercussions.

(28,833 posts)I don't mean that in a negative way - it's truly great to have those options available.
I think a lot of people would love to leave, but won't have the resources. Many are the ones who will be most negatively affected by the next Trump admin.

(1,596 posts)Besides, after Putin is done with Ukraine he'll go after Europe.
Doesn't Italy already have a fascist leader? This is a trend. And no one to rescue us as happened in WWII.
Nor were there nuclear weapons back then. If there weren't any now, we'd have taken care of Putin when he attacked Ukraine and Trump wouldn't have him as a mentor. We shouldn't underestimate how involved Putin is with all this.
Sparkly
(24,340 posts)Once he lets Putin take Ukraine, Europe will be next and/or turn fascist.
Then if he pulls out of NATO, we'll have no allies. What would prevent us from becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of Russia, aligned with North Korea and Iran.

Canada doesnt want us and Mexico will be pushed into chaos when a few million people feel they have to leave the country for their safety.

(44,458 posts)Not exactly a "safe' progressive playground:
The most recent general election in 2022, resulted in a centre-right coalition led by Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy, a right-wing political party with neo-fascist roots winning an absolute majority of seats in the Italian Parliament. Meloni was appointed Prime Minister of Italy. And to take just one issue, abortion, while it is legal, it is subject to numerous restrictions and it all but barred after 12 weeks. Moreover, just this past spring, Italy's parliament approved a legislation proposed by Meloni's government giving anti-abortion groups access to abortion facilities where they can try to convince women seeking abortion not to do so. This is legislation that was criticized by doctors because it will allow unqualified anti-abortion groups to have access to women seeking abortion. And Italy has a very loose "conscientious objector" provision allowing practitioner to refuse to perform abortions on "moral" grounds, accounting for over 60% of the nation's ob/gyns.
