Where do we go?
What do we do?
How do we recover what has been taken from us?
I no longer know.

(17,421 posts)....the further delay in climate action we will now suffer will result in irreparable damage to the global ecology.
There won't be any recovery from that.

(120,601 posts)We pay attention. Try to figure out how this happened. Think of having to rebuild from scratch - the house has burned down and there's nothing left but charred ruins and now we have to start over. It will take a long time but we have to resist the takeover. Somehow.

(24,934 posts)I think it will take generations to undo what is coming. The sad part is they are ready to implement Project 2025 on day 1.
I feel for our children who may not get educated, but will get indoctrinated. Goodbye critical thinking.

(4,810 posts)Try teaching it to freshmen college students! (I do try.) Trust me. They have none. Most have never even heard of it and think it's some old-fashioned idea they don't need because they already can think just fine. My point is that we've already said goodbye to critical thinking as part of educating our children, and that's a large part of why we are where we are.

Aside from those issues, they believed that reproductive rights would not be entirely taken away (because some states have already restored those rights).

then again, I think of all the people who advocated for VP Kamala. They are at risk too. I just don't know not a very good day for me today.

(9,689 posts)In any and every way we can. Small or large. We stop feeding the MSM pockets and we need news and information that goes back to its roots. A true underground. A true Democratic Underground.
The paperclip, like you now have, is a great place to start.
We must be willing to fight. We need party leaders in Congress that are willing to fight as hard as us.
While it may seem a little dark, I realize that at least some will end up in unmarked mass graves. That will likely be our reality. At least we should assume that is the case. To do otherwise seems naive.
We can do this but it's going to require commitment that most likely, at least in the beginning, are not willing to resist yet (not talking about violence)

This is the worst day in US history, as FDR said about Pearl Harbor, "a day that will live in infamy."
Historians have long predicted the United States would not fall to an outside power such as Russia or China, but that it would be crushed from within. It is our misfortune to see that process beginning to unfold.
2016 was stunning. That the majority of US voters have returned the scum of the earth to the White House is inconceivable. And yet here we are . . .

Michael Burlingame, a chair in Lincoln studies at the University of Illinois Springfield, told us Lincoln "was denouncing mob violence which would lead to chaos, provoking the public to demand law and order, which would be provided by an ambitious leader who would rule tyrannically."

(24,119 posts)It's hard when you feel like your very life is in danger, and that's how I feel right now. We are retired, we will be really hurt by tcf's 20% tax on everything from his stupid fucking tarriffs. Hubs now cant retire until August because ACA will be gutted, if tcf doesn't raise the age before then, and you know he's going to entirely gut SS and Medicare and all healthcare and education and leave NATO and make us Russian vassals. That's what he's being paid to do.

(11,522 posts)I was planning on returning in January and traveling about for fun. After doing so much travel for work, I was looking forward to traveling with my wife and taking our time to enjoy the beauty of our world. Well shit. Now I have to pivot and try to protect our lifetime investments from the amateur economists that will be in the White House.
So instead of enjoying spring baseball, I will be preparing our house for sale so we can get it sold before the economy truly crashes. Then we figure out what democracy we want to move to. Or maybe we stay here, and buy a smaller house after the crash.

Mother Nature is the true King on this planet and she will have the last words with Climate Change. Things are only going to go from bad to worse. When those ice caps really go, most of Florida will be under water and what's left with be destroyed by hurricanes.

(205 posts)Today I just posted on my Community Chat group:

If anyone is interested in listening and speaking from the heart about whatever is alive for them right now - including feeling unsettled - I will offer a Zoom meetup at 7pm this evening.
I am certified as a facilitator by the Institute of Cultural Affairs.
Message me for the Zoom link. I could also do this at other times, so let me know if that sounds good.
I am also happy to talk with people one on one, by Zoom or phone.
Together we rise!"
And I am thinking of revisiting my efforts to get our neighborhood to launch or join an existing Mutual Aid group. Also I want to find out if the Monday Safety Walking group is mostly about deterring crime and protecting property, or standing up for the oppressed. It helps me to remember, simultaneously, that "I cannot change the world" AND "I can have some influence"
Also, I am going to be focused on my own psycho-spiritual well-being. I guess a few simple local actions is part of that, but I've already started doubling down on self-love (which really really helps me) and I'm pondering what else would support me. Meditation, fun, outdoors, community, etc.

(34,178 posts)but not really surprised because I know how women are hated in this country, and Trump et al used that as a wedge and dug in. Even Barack Obama managed to get elected twice. But women can't find a way - and it's other women holding us down as much as the men.
I remember the 1970s & how our moms & aunts worked to get freedoms for us. I'm in my late 50's and already tired. At this point I just want to protect my kids. Primarily my daughter - she is out of the country right now and does have a student VISA she can still use for nearly a year. I hope she finds a way to not come back. It's pretty sad but that's where I'm at.

(22,524 posts)Honestly this doesn't feel as bad as 2016, but it feels worse in other ways.
2016 was like a slap across the face because I truly believed that America would never elect a scumbag like Donald Trump, and then they did.
This time around, I still can't believe that America would elect a scumbag like Trump -- who was convicted of 34 felonies, found liable for rape, and tried to violently overthrow the government since the last time he ran for office -- except, deep down, I can believe it. It already happened once. This time around I find myself disappointed, but not surprised.
The reason it feels worse than 2016 is because we're now on the verge of the unknown. It feels like America just took the deck and threw all the cards up in the air. There are no checks on Donald Trump now. We have absolutely no idea what's going to happen next. But we do know that whatever it is, it will be laced with both vindictiveness, and incompetence.
If we still had a democracy, the remedy would be straightforward -- just wait for Trump to screw everything up, then vote him out. After all, if Americans will "thrown the bums out" when the economy is strong, unemployment is at record lows, gas prices are down, and crime is down, then wait till they get a load of what Trump and his cronies are going to do next.
Unfortunately, Americans may not get the chance to throw the bums out again for a very long time.

I have worked my butt off. I can barely move. Did tons of canvassing, but I'm old. I protested alot on 2017, but protesting is physically difficult. I busted my butt off. I've gotta get back in physical therapy and take care of my body.
I so wanted Trump, just to be gone. It seems like he has been president for 8 years already. It seems like he was still president while Joe wss president. So we will have him for 12 years. Ugh.. it seems like there is no end to him..ugh
