John Pavlovitz: Kamala Harris didn't lose, America did.

John Pavlovitz
Kamala Harris didn't lose, America did.

As a nation, we collectively failed her—and in doing so we failed girls and women, the LGBTQ community, people of color, Muslims, Jewish people, immigrants, the sick, the poor, the elderly, the people of Ukraine, and Gaza, and the planet.

It's unthinkable, that instead of being able to celebrate a beautiful, hopeful new chapter in the story of this nation with a leader who appealed to the best of our natures—we will instead be holding a postmortem for democracy as we enter our 250th year, stewarded by a malevolent sociopath who despises empathy and shuns the law.

I truly thought we were better than this, that our shared humanity would show up. I thought we would reject this hatred and ugliness once and for all.

I hate being wrong about the majority of the people of this nation.

I don't know what's ahead. All I know is that good-hearted human beings are more necessary now than ever.

We did all that we could to avoid this moment, but now that it's here we'll just have to decide who we will be.

There is no way to comprehend or measure how grievous an error this is, but the only thing the decent people of this nation can do is wake up tomorrow and fight like hell for what we still believe is worth the fight, and we will.

I'll be doing that with whoever has the strength to join me.

I'm mourning the country we could have been and the one we apparently are—but I refuse to give up believing that compassion is the right path, that diversity makes us better, and that love is greater than fear.

Something has happened to a lot of people that is beyond politics. I think we're into a new phase and not a good one. Maybe political sociologists need to hand this problem off to psychiatrists.

He said that way back. He’s a genius when it comes to manipulating and brainwashing people. Other than that, he is dumb and uninformed as hell.

He was never worried about the outcome. His sense of security allowed him to delight in plumbing every level of humiliating his opponents. He never paid attention to his staff who tried to get him to curb his excessive cruelty. His staff begged him to focus on issues. He refused. He knew that he was safe to feed his psychotic ego. His staff could see that he was losing. He must have known that nothing he said or did would negatively impact his ultimate victory.

We know he was in communication with Putin during his first term. He corrected his intelligence briefers and told them Putin had told him otherwise to their assessments; the briefers were shocked. He cancelled a joint military exercise with South Korea because Putin told him that it would offend North Korea. He publicly endorsed Putin in Helsinki and conferred with Putin with no witnesses or records. During the first campaign, he had a computer in his office getting information from Betsy Devoe's husband's office and relaying it to a Russian bank. Ever wonder why Betsy knew she was safe to do whatever she wanted and ignored all outside directives? Manafort gave campaign info to Russia. Giuliani worked with Russian affiliated people in Europe. He showed his allegiance to Russia by inviting their representatives to be the first guests to the White House and showed them he could be a source of intelligence by giving them some. Remember when Jared Kushner went to the Russian embassy in DC to see if Trump could use their connection to Moscow to avoid having Trump's interactions with Putin monitored?

Enter Elon Musk. We know he spoke with Putin during the campaign. Lord knows what his money could buy.

I don't know how Putin manipulated our voting machines, but he did. However, he was supposed to do it when Trump ran the second time. That's why Trump wouldn't accept Biden's victory. Russia had helped him get into office before and had guaranteed him a win, so he spent the rest of the term looking for the ballots that should have been there. I think this time Russian intelligence figured out how to avoid all the middle men and go straight to the computers.

So now, maybe it will be like Trump promised a Christian crowd: if he wins this election, they'll never have to vote again.

I am thinking you're onto the problem here. I'm more inclined to accept that theory than to accept that America just voted for fascism.

It's going to be an ugly fight but we still might win. I am just old and not looking to keep fighting over every last thing anymore, but I'll fight if I see a reasonable outcome.

PHILADELPHIA & IT'S SUBURBS EXPECT TO FINISH COUNTING BLLOTS WEDNESDAY WITH THOUSANDS OF MAIL BALLOTS LEFT TO GO

Philadelphia, Bucks, Delaware, Montgomery, and Chester counties each announced an early round of mail votes Tuesday evening but will continue counting and reporting mail ballots as they report in-person votes throughout the night.

As of 11:30 p.m. several in-person precincts were still not reporting and it was unclear exactly how many mail ballots still needed to be counted.

THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER
"Just after midnight Wednesday, at least 200,000 mail ballots still needed to be counted across Philadelphia and the four collar counties as the presidential race remained too close to call with area officials saying the votes could take until Wednesday evening to be fully counted.
