WASHINGTON, Sept 2 (Reuters) - (This Sept. 2 story has been corrected to fix the numeric designation of the missile in paragraph 1)
Two U.S. researchers say they have identified the probable deployment site in Russia of the 9M730 Burevestnik, a new nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed cruise missile touted by President Vladimir Putin as "invincible."
Putin has said the weapon - dubbed the SSC-X-9 Skyfall by NATO - has an almost unlimited range and can evade U.S. missile defenses. But some Western experts dispute his claims and the Burevestnik's strategic value, saying it will not add capabilities that Moscow does not already have and risks a radiation-spewing mishap.

Such amateur stuff. It's like these Russian and Chinese propagandists are stuck in 1950, like a small town still playing golden oldies in their top pop lineup.

(88,849 posts)___Michael Kofman, a Russia expert at CNA, said that while it was undoubtedly a test of a nuclear reactor for military application, there wasnt enough evidence to say specifically that it was for the Skyfall.
Russia has quite a few different weapons projects, a few different nuclear power projects, Kofman said. It could have been a test of a component of another weapons project, he added.
Whatever the cause of the explosion, arms controls experts remain skeptical that Russia has the money and technical know-how to make the Skyfall a reality.
Maybe theyre just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks, but I dont think it can all stick, said Ian Williams, the deputy director of the Missile Defense Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, who added that he is skeptical about Moscows ability to see through development and production of the Skyfall.

(14,271 posts)...same phony nuclear claims on a weapon system that hasn't lived up to Putin's claims.
The point is that you've posted old news in a new package, just in time for our election.
You're not really trying to argue that this is a real threat to the U.S. are you?
I get that there's a risk of fallout, but this is a Dr. Strangelove 'doomsday bomb' level hoax.

(88,849 posts)...on a hoax of a missile that, as the article I provided will tell you if you read it, that Russia has little chance of producing or making work as they claim.
Is this about Norway, or Russia? I can't figure why you think this should be important, but I know why Reuters does. They are catapulting Russian propaganda in this article that presumably is about Norway's detection of another nuclear test on a dubious, hyped weapon system.
Everyone should understand that whatever harm is done to Norway, it is in the furtherance of a major propaganda effort by Putin to represent this weapon as a threat to the West.
So far, he's been determined by many to be full of shit, notwithstanding the damage he's doing with his testing of their weapon that appears to be dangerously scattering the fallout.
You don't get any of that in what you posted without comment, other than, 'Both sources 100% legit.'
Lol.
