(I purposefully broke the link to the tweet - but left enough of the URL if you feel the need to view it - because it contains pictures of the 11 year old boy and his name, but left out pics/name of the boy from my transcription - Dennis).

(5,473 posts)Is apparent in the post. Why do Florida law enforcement show a child's picture and make him do a perp walk?

(23,373 posts)Law enforcement officials in Florida and across the country have seen a wave of school shooting hoaxes recently, including in the wake of the deadly attack at Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga., which killed two students and two teachers.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said hes tired of the hoaxes targeting students, disrupting schools and sapping law enforcement resources. In social media posts Monday, Chitwood warned parents that if their kids are arrested for making these threats, hell make sure the public knows.
Since parents, you dont want to raise your kids, Im going to start raising them, Chitwood said. Every time we make an arrest, your kids photo is going to be put out there. And if I can do it, Im going to perp walk your kid so that everybody can see what your kids up to.

(5,473 posts)Sheriff has been doing it for years. No due process for minor children or alleged dog abusers. I find that immoral.

But I agree, Shame on FL for publishing the boy's pictures (11 years old is still a boy).

(2,731 posts)In the video below, we hear the Sheriff explain that "parents, if you don't want to raise your kids, I'm gonna start raising them."
He had written a list of names and targets. He says it was all a joke.
Volusia Sheriff's Office deputies recovered a bunch of airsoft rifles, pistols and fake ammunition along with knives, swords and other weapons he was showing off to other students in a video. For his actions, Carlo "Kingston" Dorelli (age 11) is charged with a felony (making a written threat of a mass shooting).
P.S. I can and will release the names and photos of juveniles who are committing these felonies, threatening our students, disrupting our schools and consuming law enforcement resources. You can expect video coming up next.

(32,786 posts)An 11-year-old in my county was arrested for similar threats against his and other middle schools. I also saw a headline from my local ABC affiliate that a 12-year-old from Texas sent bomb threats to a couple of middle schools in south Georgia. I hope the FBI is paying closer attention to social media, since these kids' parents don't seem to be doing that.

(7,717 posts)$24k for pay running down these phone threats. He said his staff was stretched thin as it was.
He talked like kids were calling in dozens of times.
They dont know if they are toy guns or what is going on until they send authorities out to investigate.
They dont know WHAT they are walking into.
Many kids are within arms reach of a gun in their homes.
Yeah, this kid had lots of toys, but whos to say they shouldnt press charges for the threats?

(28,788 posts)But are there real guns elsewhere in the house? God knows its easy enough for a determined kid to get the real thing.
