NH-GOV: Candidates for N.H. governor seek broader support in shadow of presidential campaign

With just 50 days until the general election, Republican and Democratic candidates in New Hampshire who emerged victorious last week in their respective primaries are now looking to grow their bases of support.

For former US senator Kelly Ayotte, the GOP nominee for governor, those efforts include outreach not only to independents but also to registered Democrats who might consider voting for her rather than former Manchester mayor Joyce Craig, their own party’s nominee.

Ayotte’s campaign launched on Monday what it’s calling the “Democrats for Kelly” coalition, a group chaired by Democratic former state senator Bobby Stephen of Manchester, who said he has long witnessed Ayotte’s dedication to serving Granite Staters.

“Kelly has the experience and the love for New Hampshire that we need in the corner office to fix our housing crisis, improve our mental health system, and make our state even more affordable for families,” Stephen said in a statement announcing his endorsement.
