surprised to see him drop her for someone who looks more Republican. I mean, he already refers to their kids as "her children".

I don't get the sense that he is loyal to anything but his own ambition.

3. Silicon Valley?

We have a sizeable Desi population here, and have had since the early 1980s. They're pretty much like any other immigrant group: they work (a lot of them in high tech), raise families, some open businesses, some get involved in local politics and civic activities, run for school board, play cricket in the parks. The biggest impact IMHO is that it's now easy to find a wider range of spices and vegetarian food.

A lot of the earlier immigrants from India were highly educated and more likely to be from the upper castes: I think Usha's and Vivek Ramaswami's families were among the latter. Discrimination against lower castes may not get much national attention, but there have been instances and lawsuits about it here.

My point is that it is appears to be more politically, perhaps maritally, expedient for Vance to attack a population from, per Trump, a shit hole country than to treat people from Indian heritage in the same derogatory manner.
