(9,950 posts)who are involved in counting votes, some will cheat. If Russia can help it will. If Trump can get Secretary of States to find extra votes he will. If he thinks he would be successful with another insurrection, he will try that. If he can get any electors not to certify states he will. This is Donald Trump. There are no rules. I believe he would kill to achieve his ends. I'm not saying he will get away with it.

"How Roberts Shaped Trumps Supreme Court Winning Streak
Behind the scenes, the chief justice molded three momentous Jan. 6 and election cases that helped determine the former presidents fate."

This is why we need to vote in numbers so massive that the traitors will be terrified of cheating. Is it fair? No. But the alternatives are things that can't be posted here.

(68,412 posts)They fixed it now as opposed to when they actually had control of government agencies in '20?
They're fixing things AFTER they revealed themselves on Jan 6 as opposed to prior when people would be less suspicious?
Like I said, an odd question. It's not logical

(9,950 posts)coup, his continued lies, fearmongering, and hate, I'd say yes.
Do you think there are plenty of Republican lawmakers who would support him? I'd say yes, based on their sickening sycophantic behavior and acceptance of Trump's lies, and that they support him even after he tried to overthrow the last electiion.
He's openly cheating already, encouraging his supporters to vote twice. He's openly saying vote this time and you won't have to again.
Do you think that some Republican vote counters, vote collectors, vote Secretaries of States would cheat? Do you think Russia would help or is helping Trump again? Do you think Trump will engage in voter intimidation? Will he or do say anything to win? Would he try to create another resurrection? I believe 'yes' to all these things.
If there is any way Trump can cheat, he will. He has the intent. He has the will. He has the support.

And I also am certain there will not be a 2nd insurrection. The over 1,000 guilty pleas and some very long prison sentences for January 6 insurrectionist serve as an ample warning.
They saw how it failed the last time.

(5,147 posts)New Mexico tried, convicted and removed from public office a county supervisor in Otero County who refused to follow the law and certify a mid-term election total when there was no evidence at all that it wasn't accurate. He was just mad his guy lost, and claimed the machine count was suspicious. He's done.
Arizona is about to put on trial two supervisors who basically intimidated the county election supervisor to the point where she quit her job and then sued under hostile workplace laws. The state indicted the two for refusing to follow the law and certify a vote in which there was no evidence of fraud, just their conspiracy theory about machine counts. Both were proven wrong when the machines checked out fine. Now one is plea bargaining to avoid a prison sentence.
That's fighting back. And I expect that threat will keep a lot of these people, who are being closely watched, honest.

(79 posts)As Michelle Obama so eloquently said, "If we start feeling tired, if we start feeling that dread creeping back in, weve got to pick ourselves up, throw water on our faces, and do something!"
Added on edit: Doing something means do everything you can to generate Democratic voter turn out. Make sure folks you know are registered to vote, make sure they get to the polls, generate enthusiasm for the candidates. When Democratic voters turn out, we win. Large margins of victory help knock out the claims that Trump will almost certainly try to make that the election was stolen from him.

(24,382 posts)If TSF knew with confidence that he'd win, I think he'd be playing a lot more golf and doing much less rage tweeting.
Don't get me wrong, there are some really good reasons for the possible "fixers" not to inform TSF of any such plans, so it's up in the air as far as I can tell. The few things that have come up, like the corrupt election officials in GA, are far from certain rigs.
I'm leaning "no fix" but open to further information as the future plays out.

(807 posts)He's already said there will be consequences for any tampering, any attempt to disrupt the counting of delegates or ballots. Any show of attacks on any government entity, or the American people, will the stopped, deadly force authorized.
Trump and his people forget that they don't have total control of things yet. There will not be another "riot" to disrupt Congress. There will not be any "bloodbath" (how's that for rhetoric?). There won't be any major attempts to riot and interfere. Oh, some small things, maybe. Any state that isn't ready for it is run by fools. There'll be some protesting, a lot of crying and moaning online, but Trump's dream of a civil war is just that, a dream.
I'm former military. I'm old, can't walk or stand much, and my eyesight isn't the best, but I can still shoot. I will defend my country, if necessary. I was never relieved of the oath I took. It's still in effect, and I still believe in it. I will protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, against all enemies, foreign or domestic.

How the Supreme Court Bolstered Project 2025
By Marc Elias
Democracy Docket, July 5, 2024
Shortly before he reported to prison, Steve Bannon told NBC News that Donald Trump is a moderate in the MAGA movement. The MAGA movement, he said, is shifting day-by-day farther right. Sadly, Bannon, MAGAs leading populist rabble rouser, is correct.
One of the cornerstones of that rightward shift is the coalition of groups called Project 2025. Anchored by the Heritage Foundation, these groups operate as the ideological center for a new brand of extreme conservative policy that is reminiscent of European nationalism in the1930s.
Project 2025 advances an extreme MAGA agenda that is fiercely isolationist, xenophobic and disdainful of democratic norms. It demonizes intellectuals, dismisses experts and idolizes charismatic strongmen. One of its leaders recently said that we are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.
Project 2025 seeks to establish a unitary executive branch where the president reigns supreme. The project claims that presidents can pick and choose which laws they want to enforce and can impose their will over every decision in every agency from environmental regulation to who should be criminally investigated and prosecuted. Most importantly, presidents can replace career employees with hand-picked cronies and can punish political enemies with impunity.
