I see them now and then: "See if you qualify for reduced car insurance if you drive less than x miles."
Anyone here looked into this? Is it another scam or is it real?

(26,968 posts)Many legitimate insurers provide low-mileage plans. We have two cars - one car gets a low-mileage rate because I work from home and don't drive much. The coverage is exactly the same on both cars. One's just cheaper.

(26,968 posts)I work from home and our insurer gives us a discount because I don't drive much. I think their low-mileage cap is 7500 miles/year, but it varies.
Coverage is exactly the same as the higher-mileage plans.

(26,968 posts)Many companies have low-mileage plans, but they don't advertise them.
Plus, with many, unless you specifically tell them, they would have no idea that you don't drive much.

(9,836 posts)That saved us a whopping 45 bucks a month. And we discuss mileage. I probably should shop because car and homeowners insurance are more than double what they were just 3-4 years ago.

(3,717 posts)We were with State Farm, but the rates just kept getting higher and higher, like every other month, it seemed. Got a quote from Liberty Mutual, and now, with house ins included, are paying almost half. (Not endorsing LM, just stating personal experience for poster.) Try different insurers, you may be surprised in the cost difference. Some of those ads, might be "suck you in" rates, that apply for a short time only, so be aware of that.
