News apathy

As yesterday’s news scrolled across the TV while I was watching football with friends, we all just shrugged and kept talking about the games and our fantasy teams. Reflecting on why we didn't care or react, I realized it’s because the Trump era created this sense of news apathy—this “who cares” mentality. Ten years ago, an incident like this would have been true “breaking news,” with nonstop coverage and everyone glued to their TVs for updates. We would have been talking about this all day at work (but no conversations have been had today). After all the chaos of the Trump years, people just shrug it off, knowing there will be another wild event tomorrow—or even in a few hours.

& when he's president he's going to make them turn it so the water flows to Cali instead of the Pacific. However did you miss that?

The sky's falling. And it's the fault of Joe Biden.
The sky's falling. And it's the fault of Nancy Pelosi.
The sky's falling. And it's the fault of immigrants.
The sky's falling. And it's the fault of sexual freedom.
The sky's falling. And it's the fault of NATO
and so on and so on
And dipshit stunt after dipshit stunt.
People tune it out, so the media have to ratchet up the FUD level to keep attention.

FUD means fear, uncertainty and doubt.
Hate and violence "help"

Way back in 1975, Jerry Ford faced two assassination attempts with a few weeks of each other. Both women assassins got within inches of him with hand guns. One of them had the gun yanked out of her hand, the other's gun failed to fire. Folks kind of followed the story for a bit and then forgot about this. No one made a big deal of these events. We all were more worried about the rising inflation.
