Cornell professor who praised Oct. 7 massacre allowed to resume teaching

Cornell University has allowed a professor who praised Hamas’s October 7 terror onslaught as “exhilarating” to resume teaching, drawing criticism for failing to address antisemitism on its campus, The New York Post reported Sunday.

History professor Russell Rickford ignited a firestorm of protest in October after his comments at an anti-Israel rally surfaced in online videos, leading him to take a hiatus from teaching amid calls for his dismissal. He has since apologized.

Standing in front of banners arguing that anti-Zionism is not antisemitism, he announced, “Hamas has challenged the monopoly of violence” and “shifted the balance of power,” adding, “It was exhilarating. It was energizing.”

5. When someone says "anti-Zionism" is not anti-Semitism, you can bet they think October 7 was a wonderful thing.

“I’m not antisemitic, just anti-Zionist” is like saying I’m not racist, I’m just anti-Black.”

8. "Exhilarating" and "energizing"?

Wonder why he's not joining them to fight against the "monopoly of violence" if he finds Hamas to be an exhilarating and energizing force. Probably because that would require him to leave his basement — or, alternatively, he knows he'd be in the direct line of violence which, as much as they like to cosplay as so, these faux revolutionaries will never subject themselves to the same thing they expect other people to endure.

It's easy to be a deranged wannabe revolutionary when all you do is sit on your ass scrolling through hammer-sickle icon Twitter or Bluesky and never have to do critical thinking beyond what the equally psychotic anti-Israel zeitgeist claims to be true.

9. And he earns what, $150K/year (just a guess) for teaching several courses?

Rickford is now teaching at least two courses at Cornell this semester — African Americans Vision of America and Socialism in America — and a seminar.

10. I wouldn't attend his classes. Students should protest and refuse to have him as an instructor.

I despise Hamas, and the Gazan people have surely paid for those actions. Israel often isn't acting any better, but I grieve for the Jewish people.

Palestine needs to be its own country, and whatever government they elect is their business. I mean, we elect Republicans. Do we need to be bombed into rubble?
