The problem(s) with Trump blaming Dems for apparent assassination attempt

First, the investigation into the alleged would-be shooter is just beginning. The idea that the former president can speak Ryan Wesley Routh’s motivations, in detail, is difficult to take seriously. Given the preliminary evidence suggesting Routh was a former Trump supporter, and expressed support for some of Trump’s GOP primary rivals as recently as this year, it seems like a stretch to characterize him as some kind of Democratic partisan.

Second, Trump clearly sees accusations that he’s a “threat to democracy” as beyond the pale, but, in reality, the Republican candidate really has endorsed an authoritarian-style vision that would undermine democracy. This assessment is based almost entirely on Trump’s own rhetoric and public statements. When the former president’s critics, in Democratic politics and elsewhere, accuse him of being a threat to democracy, their case is rooted in fact.

Third, these assessments aren’t just coming from the left. Trump’s own former Defense secretary, Mark Esper, has described the former president as a “threat to democracy.” The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward, who remained neutral in every presidential race throughout his lengthy career, made an exception for Trump, calling him a “threat to democracy.” Retired federal Judge J. Michael Luttig, a giant of conservative jurisprudence, directly accused Trump and his allies of waging a “war on democracy,” adding that the former president is a “clear and present danger” to American democracy.

Fourth, if Trump genuinely believes that accusations about “threats to democracy” are beyond the pale, he should probably take a moment to explain why he keeps accusing those he dislikes of being “threats to democracy.” At last week’s presidential debate, for example, he pointed at his Democratic rival and declared, “They talk about democracy. ‘I’m a threat to democracy.’ They’re the threat to democracy.”

DT genuinely believes nothing. Roy Cohn taught him well.

. . .
Tyrnauer and Zirin remind viewers and readers that Cohn imparted an M.O. that’s been on searing display throughout Trump’s ascent, his divisive, captivating campaign, and his fraught, unprecedented presidency. Deflect and distract, never give in, never admit fault, lie and attack, lie and attack, publicity no matter what, win no matter what, all underpinned by a deep, prove-me-wrong belief in the power of chaos and fear.

Trump was Cohn’s most insatiable student and beneficiary. “He didn’t just educate Trump, he didn’t just teach Trump, he put Trump in with people who would make Trump,” Marcus, his cousin, told me. “Roy gave him the tools. All the tools.”

He is a vengeful and vindictive person and will not be happy until someone else suffers for his crimes and vulgar language.

and then you are clearly losing to one and will never step aside and let someone else with a better chance run and you spent your whole presidency making it easier for crazy people to have access to guns, isn't a more or less inevitable response to that going to be at least some whackjobs thinking it's going to be easier to "replace" the Republican candidate than the Democratic one?
