OK, Thom Hartmann, you owe me about two euros, and it's all your fault

About six months ago, I called the Dallas County voting office to make SURE they had me registered at my Dallas address, and as an absentee voter voting from Germany. They did. All was in order, and I got my primary ballot in plenty of time.

Then I saw his piece on Republicans doing whatever they could to make sure people could NOT vote, and how Republican states were doing their level best to disqualify voters. I know I'm good, but I suddenly felt the need to verify it again.

Soooooooooooo.......I called up America at 6 PM this afternoon (11:00 AM Dallas time), pressed all the buttons I had to in order to get a real live human on the line at the Dallas voting office. I got a very pleasant and helpful woman who asked me all the pertinent information, and I read back to her the unfamiliar German street and city names. She found me in their system quickly. No worries, I'm still registered, and I am still scheduled to get my absentee ballot mailed to me in plenty of time to send it back. Dallas County has always been very good about this, so there was no need for me to panic.

Thom--you owe me €2 !! Fair warning: next time you're in Düsseldorf, I intend to collect!

Ahhh, you know what? On second thought, forget it. it's cool. EVERY one of us needs to verify and re-verify, because if there is any way Republicans can strike even ONE of us from the voter rolls, they will.

Each of us (especially in red states/districts/areas) need to verify and re-verify to make damned sure you're on the rolls. Ask when ballots are to be mailed out. If you don't receive a ballot when you should, call and check on it. Go into the voting office if you can't get help on the phone. I promise that the rethugs will make this as difficult as they can on all of us. Remember that they cannot win if they don't cheat and the cheat can and will take many forms.

Bless the State of Oregon that this check can be done online, even from out of the country.
I checked mine and 'pareja's this morning. All good.

Edit to add that I can file my vote via email by waving secrecy.

myself, DH, our sons, and middle child's girlfriend every month. (They have all given permission and encouraged me to do so)....though, I doubt they will be too worried about a bunch of white men in Iowa, in a red county.

ETA (Clicked before I finished typing!) Glad you checked though. Better to be sure.
