Elon Musk has now deleted a recent post where he publicly questioned, or in his words "joked," about why there has not been an assassination attempt against President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris. Musk posted his tweet shortly following a second assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump in which Trump was not harmed. In his post, Musk stated "and no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala..."



The post was deleted a few hours after he posted it, but the damage had already been done. The tweet, at the time of its deletion had more than 39 million impressions and was reposted more than 21,000 times.

Following the tweet, Musk posted again claiming that it was a joke and that jokes are "way less funny" if people do not know the context:



He was likely referring to the now-deleted tweet, although the post did not directly reference it. In any event, Musk has come under significant fire for the original tweet, so much so that he eventually took it down. There have been few prior instances where Musk took down a tweet hours after he posted.
