An "apparent" assassination attempt

Why "apparent?" The guy was in position to shoot Trump, he had the gear and the gun--why does the FBI persist in calling this an "apparent" attempt to kill Trump?

Whatever the reason, Trump is happy as a pig in shit. First thing he does is send out a fundraising email, assuring the faithful that he is unharmed. And best of all, nobody's talking about the debacle, er, debate. He's back in the news, all news all the time, without having to do a goddam thing to warrant it.

He got grudging respect even from some libs on his handling of what was a genuine attempt on his life--why not recreate that "Fight fight fight" tough guy/heroic victim vibe? Whether this was a real assassination effort or not, Trump is reaping benefits left and right. A pig in shit.

2. Not sure if this is relevant, but some reports describe him as casing the joint for a later attack.

I'd like to hear more, but I THINK the last I heard was that the shots fired were by the Secret Service to capture him.

3. If there was no first pump, maybe this was not staged.

Or maybe someone told him that the fist pump was a Black Power symbol.

Eyes on the prize, folks.

Distraction is his game. As Stephen Fry said of social media:

Yuval Noah Harari’s fascinating new book Nexus concentrates at one point on the two word goal of the algorithms that were put to work to monetise Facebook when it moved from university bulletin board to global network and decided to pay for itself with online advertising. The two words the algorithms were tasked with were “maximise engagement”. Seemed innocent enough at the time. No one predicted, neither software engineer, philosopher, sociologist, cultural commentator nor psychologist, that those algorithms on their journey to capture our clicks would discover that engagement is most maximised by anger, outrage, resentment, envy, fear and hatred. The worst passions. In all of us — you and me — not just in our ideological enemies.

IT'S AN ALGORITHM

but TSF wasn't in range, he didn't shoot (as we know of so far), and was driven off by SS. If I'm sitting outside a bank, after hours, with a flashlight, wire cutters, burglary tools, and the combination of the safe, and I walk up to the front door, and get arrested at that point, it is an "attempt".

5. They are investigating whether to increase charges. Did he have a plot?

This can be determined by intent. If there is evidence that he was planning to kill Trump he can be charged with that crime. Digital evidence counts.

Since Trump is under SS Protection etc, I believe he counts as a public official. Public official includes IRS employees etc.

An assassination plot can be considered a "threat to a public official".
