The maternal side were lucid when they died. The paternal side did’t even recognize their kids.

21. I have mixed feelings about this. My mother's last words to me before she fell into a coma were

"I'm dying. And I know it."

I was staying at a motel nearby the hospital in Dallas. I asked to be called when she was pronounced dead. But when I went to her room I saw my mother lifeless and it wasn't her. Her spirit had left her body. After a few moments I kissed her cheek. I hoped that my face was one of the last images she saw and was a comfort for her.

The reality of dying and death is an experience. I am pretty cool about dying. I just don’t want the lingering.
