cheato posted a diatribe this morning against the Post Office and specifically, mail in ballots. Trying to spread distrust of them so that he can claim fraud. Ron Filipkowski thinks it is a serious possibility that he is working in cahoots with DeJoy. I know that many of you on DU do as well. I wish this issue would receive a quarter of the attention that all the dysfunctional gossip on the R does.

(9,864 posts)Early voting starts Oct. 7th.
I shan't look forward to the arduous process of walking to my mailbox, filling in a few circles, and then walking back out to my mailbox. What if the sun is shining? Will there be water stations along the way? What if shady characters are loitering around my polling place? I already have whiskered types with alert ears who sit ever close by and spy upon my activities all day. Are they waiting for the ballot to arrive to ensure I vote correctly? Should I report them?
Voting in California is rough, lemme tell ya.

(19,546 posts)You're right: it's great living here! But let's not forget our friends in the red states. Things could get bad.

(32 posts)We get a notice when the ballet is sent, then when they receive it and finally that it was counted. We can usps mail it back, use one of the many 24/7 drop boxes or vote in person with long early voting period. Dont know how they could make it easier. We do have one of the highest participation rates in the country but I am still shocked it is not higher.

Why doesn't Biden get rid of him? Serious question. No excuses about "it's too hard".

(14,105 posts)He could pressure the Postal Board to do so. If it were a priority he could get it done, but its probably to close to the election to do it now.

(1,723 posts)DeJoy has already proven himself an incompetent political hack. Fire the bastard and let God sort it out. By the time the Supine Court rules in his favor (as expected) it'll be next year. By then, DeJoy's (albeit temporary) replacement will have fixed at least some of whatever he had broken....

(9,606 posts)it needs to become equipped to handle the volume. They cant install machines by tomorrow but they can pay lots of overtime and hire temp workers to help speed things up. How many people would sign up for that?
DeJoy wont make it happen but Biden is still President. Executive order time.

This has been one of my few strong frustrations with the Biden administration. They have had the ability, for multiple years now, to replace the remaining trump appointees that put dejoy in and are retaining him. They instead allowed them to overstay their terms in office.

(2,709 posts)The entire West coast votes by mail.
In my state we have multiple options to return our ballots: locked ballot boxes in secure public locations like public libraries; the county has a secure drop box at the registrars office; and you can put it out for the mail carrier to pick up or drop it in the mail slot at any post office.
Additionally, you can sign up for email or text notifications on when your ballot is mailed to you, and track when it has been accepted and counted. Completely secure.
I hate Republicans! They're the ones who cheat at everything and then try to project their wrongdoing by accusing others.
I forgot to add: you have to sign where the envelope seals, so any tampering with your vote would be visible.

(9,505 posts)It is extremely frustrating. But the convenience of voting by mail makes the waiting tolerable.

(1,190 posts)The day after Trump appointed DeJoy he ordered the destruction NOT just the dismantling of brand new mail-sorting equipment to hamstring mail-in ballot distribution.
So no, it isn't "serious possibility", it is a rock-hard, irrefutable fact. The evidence for that is too mountainous to ignore.
Why that sonofabitch is still fucking over the USPS is something Joe had better have a damned good answer for. He can't fire DeJoy, but he CAN horsewhip the majority Democrat Board of Governors (figuratively speaking of course) for protecting the bastard.
And just ignoring calls for his dismissal is NOT a clever strategy.
The USPS is the only business entity specifically referenced in the Constitution, and for that arrogant shit, DeJoy, to sabotage it with impunity had better cost someone their job.
