Taylor Swift's "Childless Cat Lady" endorsement of Kamala Harris exposes what MAGA men fear most

Taylor Swift's "Childless Cat Lady" endorsement of Kamala Harris exposes what MAGA men fear most
Voting for Donald Trump will not make the ladies like you, Elon Musk

(Salon) "With love and hope," Taylor Swift signed her endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, "Childless Cat Lady."

Most of the global star's Instagram post praising the Democratic presidential nominee and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, was thoughtful and earnest. She thoughtfully laid out her frustrations with Donald Trump for falsely claiming she backed him, writing immediately after Tuesday night's debate, "It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter." Swift heralded Harris as "a steady-handed, gifted leader," and lauded Walz for "standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades." She included information for her young fans on registering to vote. The General Services Administration announced that more than 337,000 visitors followed Swift's link to Vote.gov as of 2 pm the day after the debate.

....(snip)....

For the few who remain blissfully ignorant of what Swift was referencing, it's a swipe at Donald Trump's running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio. At this point, it's impossible to keep track of how many clips have been unearthed of Vance raving about how much he hates and fears childless women, who, in typical MAGA projection, he calls "miserable" and "sociopathic." Vance has insisted such women hate children and that shaming them is necessary to set them straight. (In reality, childless women support pro-family policies more and are happier than the average voter.) With her signature, Swift trolled Vance and all the sad MAGA men who want to believe calling women "cat ladies" is fresh humor.

In contrast, Swift reclaiming the term "childless cat lady" was a sick burn. She deftly mocked what scares and enrages MAGA men most: women who don't care what they think.

....(snip)....

Obviously, the MAGA fury isn't really about Swift, who is just one person. She's a symbol of a much larger social change. There are metrics we can use to gauge women's liberation, from the closing of the gender pay gap to increased levels of female education to later marriage and motherhood ages. Swift, however, puts a face to the shifting social dynamics between men and women that these tangible gains have allowed. Simply put, millions of women have been liberated from having to care what stupid men think of them — and boy, are a lot of men mad about it. .................(more)

2. I know very little about Taylor Swift's music, and won't recognize one of her songs. But as my niece is a "Swiftie..."

...I do believe her fans take her very seriously, including her social views.

I applaud Ms. Swift for her decency, and given the violence of the nutcases in this country, her courage in speaking out.

13. Here's a quote of what that sad excuse for a person tweeted:

"'Other Trump supporters, like podcaster Dave Rubin, resorted to the more familiar right-wing fearmongering: "It’s like, Taylor Swift, you are a young, pretty girl. Do you know what the gang members from Venezuela do to young, pretty girls? It ain’t pretty.'”

No doubt that it made his ugly soul very proud to be able to call out those words to her in a public space. Does this guy shake his head in bewilderment when the victim is older and not attractive? "Who would want to rape an old lady?" Or, as Trump would put it, "She wouldn't be the chosen one."

Struggling with some violent revenge ideation right now- -not saying that I would act on it-- but there is an irony to the fact that men who make statements like that fledge in the same flocks with those who love guns oh, so much.

But thanks to improved firearm technology. you don't have to have much in the way of upper body strength, (or even skill) to mow down mouthy promoters of rape as a form of social control.

Just as White America is fortunate that Black Americans are less interested in revenge than in just being allowed to live their lives in dignity and peace and being given a fair economic shot --so, too, are men such as Rubin lucky that most women are decent people who recognize that the male half of the population are our brothers with whom we are meant to share the planet. (Sorry for being pedantic and pontificating. It's my way of dealing with strong emotion.)

I do hope more of Taylor's female peers step out and shake them boys even more. Beyonce', Megan, Oprah, Gates, Jolie....bring it.

When a beautiful woman like Taylor Swift rejects Trump, she rejects them as well. And they fear that kind of rejection. They always have, from the time they were adolescents, and the pretty girl they were crushing on in middle school first called them weird. That's why accusations of being "weird" really cuts these guys to the marrow.

and they are not "girls" - they are women. There are no doubt little girls learning about Taylor daily, but at this point they are learning about her from their moms! And she is not a teenager anymore. She is a 34-year-old self-made billionaire who is already in the top ten lists of best-selling solo musical artists of all time.

(Taylor) "lauded Walz for "standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades."

As a reminder, in 2013 a Denver radio disc jockey put his hand up her skirt and groped her during a photo op. On stage. In front of thousands.

Fun fact: The groper was on-stage - with his girlfriend - when he groped Taylor! (TS and I are on a first-name basis.)

Shocked and embarrassed, she did not report the incident. And then, now very angry, she did! The DJ was fired. Quietly. He then filed a $2.9M suit against Taylor who then counter-sued. Taylor WON!

NPR reported that her suit got attention from survivors of sexual assault, who are praising Swift's frank and unapologetic stand.

Four months later, Swift was Time magazine's "Person of the Year."

They're incels 'cause women are liberated from needing them for financial support. They have less to offer a woman than does a cat.

I see to this is that a lot of Swift's fans are too young to vote. But, if she can just persuade them to take an interest in public affairs, that's all to the good -- it will pay off in future elections.
