(16,908 posts)Its not like you are breaking a minor rule. You are adding an unsecured network connection in a secure area. One that can divulge location, ship mission, or status.
This is about as serious an infraction as you can achieve without outright espionage or sabotage.
What was the purpose and what were they thinking?

But this is a big f'in deal. Ive been a contractor on military bases - even one on an island off the coast of florida - yes, that one). This level of stupidity would put you in jail.
There is simply no excuse large enough to explain this. "I didnt like the rules" will get you a stay in a military prison.

(12,243 posts)The Starlink will allow unauthoorized communications with unknown people. May be the were only interested in sports scores, texting and TV shows, but I have suspicions that there could be something nefarious. The military at least in my day was awfully touchy about communications stuff like locations etc.
